We are a collaborative research group where students work closely with one another and with Dr. Kanayeva throughout every stage of a project — from aptamer selection and sensor fabrication to electrochemical characterization and clinical validation. We welcome motivated researchers who are excited by interdisciplinary science and the challenge of developing diagnostics that can be used where they are needed most.
Current openings
PhD position — EIS aptasensor development
Focus on aptamer selection and sensor optimization for infectious disease targets. Background in biochemistry, electrochemistry, or biomedical engineering preferred.
Undergraduate & MSc research projects
Short- and long-term projects on sensor fabrication, data analysis, and assay validation. Open to NU Biology and MSc in Life Sciences students.

What you'll learn
Hands-on aptamer design and selection, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiostat operation, sensor surface chemistry, and how to take a lab result toward something that could actually work in a clinic. Group members are also mentored on scientific writing, conference presentation, and grant writing.
